A 35-year-old man died early Sunday after he was shot on McKinney Avenue, marking the first homicide publicly reported by Dallas police in May.

Dallas police said officers responded to a shooting call around 2:50 a.m. on May 3 in the 2700 block of McKinney Avenue.

The preliminary investigation found that Jeronimo Avila, 35, was shot by an unknown suspect, police said. The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Avila was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.

DPD said the investigation remains ongoing and is documented under case No. 062828-2026.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective R. Kramer at 214-671-3608 or [email protected].
