Dallas police seized 162 kilograms of methamphetamine after a community tip led officers to a suspected drug trafficker in West Oak Cliff on October 1.

The bust also netted $100,000 in cash and a handgun, dealing a major blow to local trafficking operations. One person was detained as the investigation continues.

Southwest Patrol CRT/Deployment officers acted on the tip in the 4300 block of Communications Drive, locating the suspect and conducting a traffic stop. During the vehicle search, officers found the methamphetamine, cash, and weapon.

“Getting any amount of drugs off the street is a win, and getting more than 160 kilos of meth off the street is a major success,” said Deputy Chief Kylee Hawks, South Patrol Group commander. “Knowing this came from a tip means people want to help us make a difference in their community.”

Hawks emphasized the community’s role in the bust. Police said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the trafficking network.
