A chase then ensued along I-35E north into Lewisville, with Dallas and Lewisville police responding. Authorities said the male suspect exited his vehicle on the Stemmons Freeway brandishing a long gun, WFAA reported.

The suspect was shot and killed by police. His identity has not been released.

The struck officers received care at two area hospitals: Baylor Scott & White in Dallas and Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Their identities have not been released.

“Our department is hurting,” DPD Communications director Kristin Lowman said, according to WFAA. “We ask tonight and this morning for the thoughts and prayers for our city, for not only those recovering in the hospital, but for our fallen, for their family and for their loved ones.”
