A veteran Dallas police officer was arrested Tuesday after turning himself in on felony theft charges.
Senior Corporal Shawn Freeman, who has served the department for nearly 30 years, faces accusations of stealing property valued between $2,500 and $30,000.
Freeman, badge number 7342, surrendered to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department on October 1. The Dallas Police Department had issued a warrant for theft of property, enhanced to a third-degree felony.
The 29-year veteran joined the force in December 1995. He was assigned to the North Central Patrol Division.
Department officials immediately placed Freeman on administrative leave. An internal investigation will determine his future with the force.
The specific circumstances surrounding the alleged theft remain unclear. Neither the department nor prosecutors have released details about what property was allegedly stolen or when the incident occurred.
