Dallas police fatally shot a knife-wielding man who had threatened family members and refused commands to disarm Tuesday evening in North Dallas.

The man, who had an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence, died at the scene despite immediate medical treatment. The incident highlights ongoing challenges police face when responding to domestic disturbances involving armed individuals with violent histories.

Officers responded to the 13800 block of Far Hills Lane around 7:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a man threatening household members with a knife and making suicidal statements. A woman answered the door when police arrived.

Officers encountered the armed man as soon as they entered the residence. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, he refused to comply. Police escorted the woman from the home while the man followed them outside, still brandishing the knife. He subsequently retreated into the house.

After identifying the suspect and confirming his active warrant, officers called for SWAT assistance. The tactical team arrived and issued multiple commands for the man to exit peacefully. When negotiations failed, SWAT officers entered the home and found the man still armed. Two taser deployments proved ineffective in subduing him.

The man allegedly advanced toward officers with the knife, prompting them to open fire. A SWAT tactical medical officer provided immediate emergency treatment, but the man died at the scene.

No officers or bystanders sustained injuries during the confrontation. The Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit is conducting the ongoing investigation.

Both the Office of Community Police Oversight and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office were notified. The DA’s office will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.

Authorities expect to release additional details in the coming days. The investigation is documented under case numbers 123152-2025 and 123156-2025.
