A 42-year-old man was shot and killed Monday afternoon in southwest Dallas, marking the first homicide reported by Dallas Police in December.

According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:10 p.m. to a shooting call in the 4000 block of West Camp Wisdom Road. When they arrived, they found Billy Brightman, 42, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced Brightman dead at the scene.

Police said the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Marlon Lawrence, remained at the location. He was taken into custody without incident, interviewed by detectives, and later arrested and charged with murder.

The investigation remains ongoing and is documented under case number 172129-2025.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective C. Fehrenbach at 214-671-3671 or [email protected].

Dallas continues to face elevated levels of violent crime while the police department remains significantly understaffed. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the City has yet to meet the voter-mandated requirements of Proposition U, which called for a police force of 4,000 sworn officers and compensation packages ranking among the top five in the metroplex for cities over 50,000 residents.
