A man was killed early Friday when a stray bullet pierced the window of his second-floor apartment and struck him while he lay in bed with his wife in West Oak Cliff, Dallas police said.

Officers responded to a shooting call just before 2:15 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Spruce Valley Lane near West Pentagon Parkway. They found the man, who was not publicly identified, dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. His wife was unharmed.

Investigators believe the bullet, one of dozens of rifle rounds fired, came through the couple’s window and was likely intended for a first-floor apartment. Police told a FOX 4 photojournalist that the man was not the intended target and that more than one shooter may have been involved.

No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear. Authorities have not released suspect information or determined the exact number of shooters.

In 2023, a 7-year-old boy was struck by a bullet while lying in his bed in a second-story apartment on Rotherington Road, near Interstate 30 in Dallas. The bullet pierced a wall from the outside. The child died from his injuries four days later. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has offered a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for the child’s death, but no arrests have been made in connection with that case.
