Officers with the Plano Police Department arrested a Chinese national after alleged sexual assault in a massage parlor.
Gang Li, 49, was arrested July 30 for attempted sex assault. The Chinese national was a massage therapist at Sunshine Wellness Spa in Plano, where detectives investigated reports of “unwanted sexual contact.”
Li is currently in the Collin County Jail, facing a charge for sexual assault – a second-degree felony, according to jail records. He has a $250,000 bond.
“He is a Chinese national and his consulate was notified upon arrest,” said J.D. Minton, Plano police public information officer, to The Dallas Express.
Li also has an “immigration detainer” from the Department of Homeland Security. Court records confirm that officials contacted the Chinese consulate, and they had to provide Li with a Mandarin interpreter.
Plano detectives investigated reports of unwanted sexual contact during visits to the Sunshine Wellness Spa, at 151 W. Spring Creek Parkway #501B, according to a statement from the department.
During their investigation, they discovered Li did not obtain a massage license until May 19 of this year. The Texas Department of Licensing and Registration investigated the validity of his massage license, and Plano police arrested him before he was later charged with sexual assault.
The Plano police Special Victims Unit is currently investigating. The department is asking anyone who visited the massage parlor, and either had a massage from Li before May 19 or saw unwanted or unsolicited sexual contact, to contact the SVU at 972-941-2044.
Minton told The Dallas Express he could not provide further comment at the time of publication.
Plano has previously pursued legal action against massage parlors accused of illicit activity.
The City of Plano sued the Red Rose Spa in April 2024, alleging it was behind prostitution, “illicit activities,” and even “advertising the sale of young girls,” as The Dallas Express reported at the time. In 2023, the city called for an investigation into another parlor – The Tennyson Wellness Center – after reports of prostitution and staff inappropriately touching customers.
