U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested five fugitives wanted on felony charges at southern border ports of entry over a five-day period. These arrests took place from March 27 to March 31 in the area under the Laredo Field Office’s jurisdiction, according to CBP.

On March 27, at Laredo’s Colombia-Solidarity Bridge, officers detained Victoria Fernandez Lopez, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Mexico wanted on a felony warrant for indecency with a child by sexual contact from the Burleson Police Department in Burleson, Texas. She was taken to the Webb County jail.

Two days later, at Brownsville’s Gateway Bridge, officers stopped Jose Arturo Alfaro Acuna, a 26-year-old illegal alien from Mexico with an international felony warrant for homicide and abuse of office from the Government of Mexico. He was handed over to Mexican authorities.

On the same day at Eagle Pass International Bridge I, officers encountered Efren Gonzalez Dominguez, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen sought for sexual assault by the Lea County Sheriff’s Office in Lovington, New Mexico. He was turned over to Maverick County sheriff’s deputies.

On March 31 at Laredo’s Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, officers arrested Epifanio Benitez, a 59-year-old U.S. citizen wanted for sexual assault of a child by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to the Webb County jail.

Later that day at Anzalduas International Bridge, officers detained Joel Herrera, a 33-year-old U.S. citizen with a felony warrant for sexual assault of a child from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. He was released into the custody of Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies.

“In the span of just five days, CBP officers at ports of entry in the Laredo area apprehended five fugitives with felony charges,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a news release. “The charges of those apprehended included homicide, sexual assault, and indecency with a child. We have delivered the most secure border in American history. We will not allow criminals to enter our country and terrorize our communities.”
