A 5-year-old child is safe after being briefly kidnapped during a car theft in Fort Worth on Sunday evening, according to police.
Fort Worth Police said two men stole a car with the child inside from a grocery store parking lot near Town Center Service Road and West Seminary Drive around 6:15 p.m.
Investigators reported that a woman was loading groceries into her running vehicle, with her child in the backseat, when she stepped away to return a shopping cart. During that moment, two men entered the car and drove off.
A witness told police that the suspects stopped a short distance away, let the child out unharmed, and then fled in the vehicle. Neither the child nor the mother was injured.
Authorities said the vehicle was last seen heading toward Arlington. Police have not released the identities of the suspects, the woman, or the child, and it is unclear how long the child was inside the vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to locate the suspects and the stolen car.
