Three suspects remain at large after a Dallas police officer was shot in the leg early Wednesday morning, Dallas Police Department’s Public Information Officer Kristin Lowman said.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Dallas police Chief Eddie García said in an early morning press conference that the shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. in the 2400 block of Northwest Highway.

The officer was assigned to the department’s crime response team, García said. He was “conducting surveillance” in a parked car when another car parked behind him and pinned him.

The chief said two armed men got out of the car. When the officer got out of his, a shootout happened, and the officer was shot in the leg, he said.

The suspects stole the officer’s Dodge Challenger, García said.

“We think there’s at least three. And we believe obviously, at least one if not multiple of those suspects are armed,” he said.

Lowman did not release the name of the officer.
