The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of two people found shot in a Southlake home as a murder-suicide between a man and his wife.
The Dallas Express reported that Southlake police found the couple dead at home in the 600 block of Regency Crossing after officers received a shooting report on July 5 at approximately 10:21 a.m.
Authorities identified the victims on Tuesday, July 7, as William Robert Waltrip and Ann Rackley Waltrip, both 74 years old, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The medical examiner’s office revealed that Ann, whose death was ruled a homicide, sustained multiple gunshot wounds while her husband, William, died from a single shot to the head. William’s death was ruled a suicide.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram report revealed that the couple’s neighbors said they were friendly and happy people who fit the quiet neighborhood.
George Hawks, whose home is just two doors from the couple’s home, said Williams always seemed cheerful, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Hawks added that Williams would always stop to greet him and his wife if they were out in the neighborhood.
Hawks added that the couple built their home and moved in around 1999. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram also reported that Hawks and other neighbors said Williams had told them his wife was sick and that he could not remember seeing her in years.
John Ybarra, another of the couple’s neighbors, revealed that law enforcement closed nearby streets while police cleared the home and began their investigation.
Hawks said authorities asked him and his wife to remain indoors while officers surrounded the house of the murder-suicide incident. Hawks added that police were unsure if the incident involved an active shooter or barricaded person situation.
