The security guard killed last Saturday in the Allen mass shooting is being hailed as a hero for his actions to assist others during the deadly attack.
As previously reported in The Dallas Express, 20-year-old Farmersville resident Christian LaCour was one of the first murder victims identified in the aftermath of the shooting spree Dallas resident Mauricio Garcia allegedly went on at the Allen Premium Outlets shopping center.
LaCour was highlighted at a press conference on Tuesday by Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey, who credited him with assisting people during the deadly attack.
“We … must acknowledge the bravery of Allied [Universal] security guard Christian LaCour, who evacuated one individual to safety and was shot while courageously remaining to help others,” Harvey said.
The day after LaCour was killed and before he had been publicly identified, Allied Universal’s CEO also noted LaCour’s courage in a message to employees.
“Yesterday, we lost one of our own during a mass shooting in Allen, Texas. Our security professional was tragically killed while protecting the customers and employees of the Allen Premium Outlets,” Steve Jones wrote.
The company later expressed its condolences to LaCour’s family and reported on the status of its other employees at the shopping center that day.
“All other security professionals assigned to the location are safe, accounted for and being offered grief counseling and additional support. Security professionals from nearby areas are commended for covering their shifts so they can grieve and begin to heal,” Allied Universal said.
Another victim of the shooting, Irvin Walker, who managed to survive being shot in the chest and shoulder, witnessed LaCour’s murder. Walker is currently recovering at Medical City McKinney after undergoing surgery.
Daryl Washington, Walker’s attorney, told Fox 4 that LaCour had come to Walker’s aid after Garcia gunned down Walker.
“Irvin actually witnessed this guy get shot. Imagine having to deal with this. The thing is we try not to talk about it so much because we know the trauma. But this was a security guard that was checking on him and seeing what was wrong with him, and shortly after, this guy gets shot,” Washington said.
LaCour’s grandmother, Sandra Montgomery, shared her grief in a Facebook post not long after the shooting.
“He was such a beautiful soul, 20 years old with goals for his future I was so proud of him and so glad I got to see him 2 weeks ago. Please pray for my family,” Montgomery wrote.
