A 17-year-old Wylie boy has died after being shot Sunday in Garland, and police have arrested another teenager they believe is responsible for the gunfire.
Garland police said medical staff notified detectives Tuesday that the victim had died from injuries sustained in the shooting. The victim was identified as 17-year-old Tonyvan Mang of Wylie.
A 20-year-old victim was also wounded in the shooting and remained hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
Teen Suspect Arrested in Richardson
During the investigation, detectives identified a suspect believed to be responsible for shooting Mang and the 20-year-old victim.
Police located and arrested 17-year-old Reng Thlang Padom at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Richardson.
Padom was charged with first-degree felony murder and second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He is being held at the Garland Detention Center on bonds totaling $1.5 million. The murder charge carries a $1 million bond, while the aggravated assault charge carries a $500,000 bond.
Investigation Remains Active
The shooting occurred Sunday, August 23, at Watson Park in the 3900 block of Lawler Road. Police have not released additional details about what led to the gunfire or described the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Garland police said detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and work to determine what led to the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the department at 972-485-4840.
The charges against Padom are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
