Dallas police announced that a teenager was booked into the Dallas County jail on Thursday in connection with the June murder of a man at an Oak Cliff gas station.

The suspect, 17-year-old Jeremy Wilson, was arrested on September 15 after being accused of fatally shooting 43-year-old Cordney Dawson on June 26.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the Dallas Police Department responded to a call in the 100 block of West Ann Arbor Avenue near Interstate 35E and Loop 12. Responding officers found Dawson with a gunshot wound.

A Dallas Fire-Rescue team swiftly took him to a hospital, where he later died.

The arrest-warrant affidavit indicates that the gruesome incident started at about 9:50 p.m. during an employee’s shift change. Four suspects, one of whom is believed to be Wilson, reportedly tried to enter the closed gas station but were asked to use the night window instead.

As they walked back to Wilson’s car, the four saw Dawson’s car, which he left running as he used the night window. The affidavit stated that one of them – whom police believe pulled the trigger – allegedly climbed into the driver’s seat of Dawson’s truck.

When Dawson tried to open his truck’s passenger door, he found it was locked. He then jumped into the truck bed and entered through the sunroof. Upon entering the car, Dawson was fatally shot.

The four suspects reportedly fled in Wilson’s car, according to the affidavit, which also mentioned that surveillance video captured the suspect, allegedly Wilson, speeding off and running a stop sign.

Officers were able to potentially identify the suspects with the help of someone who knew them after the footage was shared with the public. However, investigators determined that Wilson and the gunman allegedly “collectively shot and killed” Dawson, while the other two suspects were “merely present.”

Wilson faces a charge of capital murder, with bail set at $500,000. No attorney is listed in court records for him. More information about the gunman is not available as police did not release further details on the case.
