A 16-year-old is in custody after he allegedly led officers from the Mesquite and Dallas police departments on a high-speed chase on Tuesday, according to NBC 5 News.

Officers tried to stop a silver Honda Accord near westbound Interstate 30 at Interstate 635 on August 9 just after 1 p.m. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen in Garland the week before.

Mesquite police explained in a Tuesday statement that the vehicle’s driver allegedly refused to stop and instead proceeded to lead the officers on a chase through neighborhood streets in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas around 1:30 p.m.

The chase continued along I-635 into Lake Highlands before heading back to Mesquite. According to police, the chase, which reached speeds of upwards of 90 to 100 miles per hour, lasted for about 60 minutes. The driver also allegedly drove the wrong way at several points during the chase and rammed his vehicle into two Mesquite police cars, police reported.

The driver who was trying to evade police later allegedly jumped out of the car and attempted to flee on foot before officers apprehended him.

The Dallas juvenile was charged with evading arrest in a vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle. His identity was not revealed, likely because he was a minor. It is not clear whether he has an attorney.
