When officers with the Garland Police Department responded to a burglary, they found that a moving truck had crashed into the front of a gun store.
A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old from Dallas are facing burglary charges after they allegedly rammed the truck into the gun store, according to a press release from Garland police.
The suspects reportedly took no property and fled the scene.
Garland police responded to an attempted burglary at the Lateral Limits gun store on Broadway Boulevard just after 3 a.m. on September 26. When they arrived, they found suspects had driven a “large moving truck” into the storefront.
“Surveillance footage showed several individuals involved in the incident, who eventually fled the location in multiple passenger cars,” the release reads. “No property was taken from the business.”
This method – crashing into a business to commit a robbery – has become increasingly common across America, earning the nicknames “ram raid” and “crash and grab,” according to Fox Business.
A Garland detective found important leads, connecting a vehicle in this apparent “ram raid” to an incident in Lewisville the same morning, where police arrested two teens, according to the department. The detective gathered enough evidence to charge both teens with burglary of a building.
As of October 1, the teens were being held at the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center in Denton. Officials withheld their identities due to their age.
“This remains an active investigation,” the release reads. “Detectives are continuing to work with surrounding agencies to identify additional suspects, and further charges may be filed.”
Garland police urged anyone with further information to contact officers at 972-485-4840. Members of the public can also submit anonymous tips to Garland Crime Stoppers online or by calling 972-272-8477.
Officers with the Dallas Police Department busted an armed robbery ring in September, seizing ammunition and multiple guns, as The Dallas Express previously reported. Just days before, Dallas police also arrested a couple wanted for allegedly committing a burglary spree across Tulsa, Richardson, and Dallas with a stolen U-Haul.
