Despite the Dallas Police Department’s efforts to get violent crime under control, robberies have increased in certain Dallas City Council districts this year.
According to the City of Dallas crime analytics dashboard, there were significant year-over-year spikes in robbery in council districts 5, 7, 12, and 14.
Council Member Adam Bazaldua’s District 7 logged the most incidents with 283, marking a 4.4% increase over the same period last year. Behind District 7 is Council Member Jaime Resendez, whose District 5 saw 193 robberies, a 17% jump over the 165 recorded in 2022. Council District 14, which is represented by Council Member Paul Ridley, clocked 165 so far this year. There were 146 incidents last year, a 13% differential.
District 12 in North Dallas, represented by Council Member Cara Mendelsohn, saw the greatest year-over-year increase, spiking from 43 to 52 incidents. However, the council district logged the smallest figure out of all the others in terms of raw incident numbers.
The Dallas Police Department has been struggling to get crime under control amid a longstanding officer shortage. There are currently only around 3,000 on staff despite a City report recommending some 4,000. The impact of the shortage has affected Downtown Dallas, logging far more crime than Fort Worth’s city center, which is patrolled by a specialized police unit and private security guards.
The council members with spikes in robbery could not immediately be reached for comment due to the Christmas holiday.

Dallas has more crime per capita than hotspots like Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York, according to data from the FBI’s UCR database.
