Following a hiccup in data by Dallas Open Records for July ’22 crime stats in the City of Dallas, Crime Boss of the Month (CBOM) for August Adam West and District 1 went from an unbelievable 30% reduction in crime to a more likely crime increase of 38.35%.
West – four-time winner of The Dallas Express’ CBOM moniker – and District 1 were not the only Dallas districts to see crimes increase in July ’22, though District 1 did run circles around the other regions, posting a crime score increase more than three times greater than the next highest-scoring district.
City of Dallas District 7 and its councilman, Adam Bazaldua, saw an increase of 10.39% when comparing crime reports from July ’21 to last month, averaging over two more crimes per day in July ’22 than the year before (up 70 from 786 to 856.)
The Dallas Express reached out to Bazaldua and his office for comment on the crime increases and what is being done to combat the issues. At the time of press, neither Bazaldua nor his District 7 office had responded.
The City of Dallas in its entirety saw Motor Vehicle Theft reports increase from 2,166 in July of ’21 to 2,341 for a total of 175 more instances. Of those 175 Motor Vehicle Thefts, 64 were reported in District 7, accounting for 36.57% of the total increase.
Of the 30 crime categories cataloged in Dallas Open Records, District 7 saw an increase in 11, but aside from Motor Vehicle Theft, each of the remaining 10 crime categories in that district increased by single digits.
Those District 7 crime increases are:
- Assault Offenses: up from 96 to 104
- Burglary/Breaking & Entering: up from 43 to 50
- Stolen Property Offenses: up from one to six
- Robbery: up from 24 to 28

The Dallas Express, The People’s Paper, believes that important information about the city, such as crime rates and trends, should be easily accessible to you. Dallas has more crime per capita than hotspots like Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York, according to data from the FBI’s UCR database.
