First responders discovered a woman’s body inside a burning vehicle in a retail shopping outlet parking lot on Thursday afternoon, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle fire at a Walmart Supercenter located at the intersection of Frankford Road and Marsh Lane around 1 p.m. on December 14. Eyewitnesses told firefighters that someone was seen inside the car when it caught fire, according to NBC 5 DFW.

Firefighters quickly subdued the flames and discovered a woman’s body inside the vehicle.

Investigators at the scene learned that the woman had been left inside the vehicle alone while another relative was shopping inside the Walmart store. Police did not disclose the identity of the dead woman or her relative or the relationship between the two. Investigators did not specify whether the woman was the driver or passenger in the vehicle.

Pictures taken at the scene indicate that the vehicle involved was a black two-door car. The fire appears to have been contained to the interior of the vehicle.

Investigators are conducting interviews with bystanders and the woman’s relative and are reviewing nearby security footage to determine the cause of the blaze. Medical examiners are currently working to determine the woman’s cause of death.

The Dallas Express reached out to DFR for more information but has not received a comment as of the publication date.
