A Dallas firefighter and four people were injured when a fire broke out at a White Rock apartment complex on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
Firefighters received a call about a fire at the Legends on Lake Highlands Apartment Homes in the 11000 block of Lake Highlands Drive around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans, the fire started in the kitchen of a first-floor apartment before spreading to the upper floors of the building. Evans added that firefighters were able to get the blaze under control, and damage was limited to four of the sixteen units in the two-story building.
Evans revealed that one firefighter who responded to the fire was injured and taken to the hospital. Evans said the firefighter fell from a ladder and sustained a lower-body injury while attempting to rescue a resident from the building. Evans said the firefighter’s injuries were not serious, and he is expected to be okay.
Evans also revealed that two residents were taken to the hospital after they sustained burn injuries. Another injured resident was treated at the scene by first responders but chose not to go to the hospital.
According to Evans, apartment management has set up accommodations in other unoccupied apartments for the residents displaced by the fire. Evans said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
