The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued an Excessive Heat Warning across the metroplex for June 28. However, the weekend brings a chance of “cooler” temperatures and the possibility of rain in some areas of the metroplex.
Dangerously high temperatures have hit the metroplex this week, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. June 28 is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with highs ranging from 100 to 109 degrees and heat indices as high as 115.
Weather officials warn that the combination of increased humidity and high temperatures will increase the likelihood of heat-related illnesses.
The Excessive Heat Warning will likely be replaced by a Heat Advisory for June 29. However, temperatures are expected to remain in the triple digits across the metroplex Thursday and Friday.
A slight pattern shift is expected to arrive by the weekend as temperatures drop below 100 degrees and chances of rain and showers increase. The NWS predicts temperatures will fall into the high 90s, “cooling” toward more “seasonal” temperatures.
“We’ll be looking at temperatures in that 100 to the 102-degree range tomorrow afternoon with heat indexes in the 105 to 110-degree range,” said Miles Langfeld with the NWS in Fort Worth. “So that slightly cooler trend will continue through the weekend.”
These slightly lower temperatures will be accompanied by a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms on July 2 and 3. At this time, no severe conditions are expected.
“A lot of areas will probably remain dry, but if we do get rain, it could be on the heavier side,” said Langfeld.
North Texans are advised to practice heat safety and to remain weather aware as conditions change.
