Walmart has launched drone delivery services for eligible residents of Southern Dallas.
The service was launched from its Supercenter on Samuell Boulevard in a partnership with California-based Zipline. The new offering enables customers to place orders of up to five and a half pounds and have them delivered to their doorstep in about half an hour.
This marks the seventh Walmart in North Texas to offer the drone delivery service. Already, residents in Mesquite, Greenville, Weatherford, Waxahachie, and Bedford can access the high-tech delivery option.
Last month, The Dallas Express reported that Chipotle similarly partnered with Zipline to offer the futuristic delivery service. The so-called ‘Zipotle’ service currently provides people in the Rowlett area a quick and convenient method to secure a burrito when the mood strikes.
The latest expansion from Walmart and other companies highlights efforts to test new tech across the Metroplex. In late July, Pittsburgh-based Aurora Innovation began completing nighttime delivery runs using its autonomous trucks on I-45 between Dallas and Houston. Earlier this year, Aurora launched the country’s first-ever commercial self-driving trucking service on the busy corridor between the two major Texas cities.
