Major construction on US 75’s high-occupancy vehicle lanes began Monday as crews started converting them into technology lanes that will operate with variable access rules.

The Texas Department of Transportation announced the project will run through summer 2026, affecting commuters traveling between the President George Bush Turnpike and I-635.

The conversion represents a shift in North Texas traffic management, opening restricted lanes to all drivers during off-peak hours while maintaining carpool priorities during rush hour. The tech lanes will remain toll-free throughout their operation.

Crews will tackle southbound lanes first, restriping approximately 1,500 to 1,800 feet nightly between PGBT and I-635. Work occurs from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize daytime disruptions.

Around Aug. 25, attention shifts to the northbound lanes between I-635 and PGBT. Once northbound striping begins, that HOV lane closes for the project’s 11-month duration.

The southbound HOV lane stays open throughout construction. After initial striping ends, work zones will operate during both day and night hours.

The converted lanes will enforce specific access times. Southbound lanes restrict access to HOV, low-emission vehicles, and motorcycles weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Northbound restrictions apply weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. All vehicles can use the lanes during other times.
