Two people died as a result of a car accident in Garland Monday morning, police said.

The crash took place around 7:20 a.m. on March 27 at South First and Washington streets near West Miller Road and Avenue D. It involved a truck and a car, according to WFAA.

One person was killed immediately, and another died later after being taken to a local hospital.

Garland police said at least one person involved in the crash is facing charges, though the department did not give any more details. No information on the condition of the driver facing charges was released to the public.

In a tweet around 7:20 a.m., the Garland Police Department (GPD) said that the north and southbound lanes of First Street were closed as a result of a “fatality accident.”

“Find an alternative route and expect heavy delays,” GPD wrote in the tweet. The road was reopened approximately two hours later at around 9:30 a.m.
