Two Dallas ISD middle school students were struck by a vehicle in a possible hit-and-run Tuesday morning as they were heading to school in Old East Dallas, prompting renewed calls from nearby residents for safety improvements along Abrams Road.

The Dallas ISD Police Department is investigating the crash, which happened near the intersection of Glasgow Drive and Abrams Road. Police said the students were crossing the street when they were hit.

Both students, identified by sources as sixth graders, were okay after the incident, according to Dallas ISD.

Police have not identified the driver or vehicle involved and are searching for surveillance video and photographs that could help identify the suspect.

Students Hit While Crossing Street

The crash happened as the students were on their way to school. Several Dallas ISD campuses, including elementary, middle and high schools, are located near the intersection.

Authorities have not released the students’ names or additional information about their injuries. It was also not immediately clear whether they were walking or riding bicycles or scooters.

Dallas ISD police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Residents in the area said the crash highlights longstanding concerns about speeding and traffic safety along Abrams Road.

Residents Have Warned of Traffic Dangers

Rachel Feig, who lives near Abrams Road in the Junius Heights Historic District, said she has repeatedly raised concerns about children crossing the busy roadway.

“I said, ‘I am concerned that a child is going to get hurt or killed trying to cross Abrams to get to school,’” Feig told FOX 4. “Now here we are.”

Feig said her home has been damaged by vehicles several times, including crashes in 2023 and 2025. She recently installed a reinforced fence around her property after what she described as continued problems with erratic drivers.

She said residents have asked the city for measures including protected crosswalks, a crossing guard and protected bike lanes.

Feig also shared images of crashes that occurred near her home Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Neighbors Want Safety Measures

Barbara Cohen, another area resident, said speeding remains a persistent problem despite police presence.

“We also have police officers who sit right in front of my house who pull over speeders, and there are so many people speeding that they cannot even catch them all,” Cohen said, per WFAA.

Residents have met with Councilmember Paul Ridley and the city’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, including meetings last year and in June, according to the information provided.

Residents said they want additional traffic-calming measures, protected crosswalks and protected bike lanes.

“I just feel like I’m on this treadmill just going, going, just running around in circles,” Cohen said. “We do get conversation, but nothing seems to change.”

Feig said residents believe the available evidence demonstrates a need for action.

“What does it take?” she said, WFAA reported. “Multiple accidents … they’ve done a traffic study to show that people are speeding on this road. We have the data, so I don’t really understand why it takes for a child to get hurt in order to do something about it.”

Police Searching for Evidence

Dallas ISD police are asking for surveillance footage or photographs that may have captured the vehicle involved in the crash.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced whether a suspect or vehicle has been identified.
