A truck carrying frozen chickens is a total loss after catching fire late Wednesday night in Mesquite.

After the truck caught fire, the driver pulled over onto the shoulder on Interstate 20 near Lawson Road and attempted to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, according to FOX 4.

The driver was unsuccessful in his attempts, and when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the truck fully engulfed in flames.

Dallas County Fire and Rescue assisted Mesquite firefighters by supplying water tankers.

Parts of I-20 were shut down for hours while crews worked to extinguish the fire and clean up the scene.

No injuries were reported with this fire.

The consist was rolling when it caught fire. I’m guessing the refrigeration unit at the front of the trailer developed a problem. If there was fire there, it could explain why apparently the driver couldn’t disconnect the tractor and move it away from the trailer.

This happened within a mile or so of me. Scary.
