As part of a $1.74 billion construction project started by the Texas Department of Transportation in the spring of 2020, three sections of I-635 will be closed for maintenance this week.
The affected area is an 11-mile stretch from North Dallas to Mesquite. The plan is to improve both safety and mobility along this section of the interstate highway.
Specifically, the project aims to reconstruct the entire interchange at I-30/I-65, increase the total to five lanes and two managed lanes in each direction, and create continual frontage roads at Town East Boulevard, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
As part of the detour, westbound drivers will take exit 15 and drive through to the entrance ramp that returns to the highway.
Additionally, the same stretch of I-635 will be restricted to a single lane of traffic from Tuesday, May 17, at 5 a.m. until May 19, at 5 a.m.
Finally, for Dallas, both the eastbound and westbound sections of the highway from Greenville Avenue to Royal Lane/Miller Road will be restricted to one lane at the following times:
Every night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Monday, May 16 until Thursday, May 19.
Friday, May 20th at 9 p.m. until Saturday, May 21 at 8 a.m.
Sunday, May 22nd at 9 p.m. until Monday, May 23 at 5 a.m.
In Mesquite, Southbound I-635 between La Prada Drive and Town East Boulevard will be restricted to one lane at the following times:
Nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday, May 16, to Thursday, May 19.
From 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following day on Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21.
Northbound I-635 will also be restricted to one lane at East Town Boulevard at the following times:
Nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday to Thursday and from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Finally, the Southbound section of I-635 at Oates Drive will be closed from 9 a.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday.
In Garland, all lanes will be closed near the frontage road at Northwest Highway from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, the closure will last from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Saturday.
The detour map for this section can be found here.
Finally, both northbound and southbound Jupiter Road at I-635 and Westbound Northwest Highway at I-635 will be closed from Monday, May 16, until Thursday, May 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
On Friday and Saturday, the closure will last from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, the last day of the closure; construction will run from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, according to The Dallas Morning News.
