Flower Mound police have arrested a juvenile after the teenager allegedly made threats towards Marcus High School. The police determined that the threats were a hoax, but the consequences were not.
On Monday, the student was booked in the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with a felony for making a terroristic threat.
The suspect’s identity was not disclosed, due to being a minor.
Since last week, the Flower Mound police have simultaneously investigated threats targeted towards Marcus High School and Flower Mound High School.
Several other North Texas school districts have also received threats. So far, none of them have proven to be credible, but they have caused fear among students and families.
According to Fox 4 News, the North Texas police departments said they have seen a rise in threats since the deadly Oxford, Michigan school shooting last month.
In a statement, the Flower Mound police department encourages the community to talk to teens, “Please talk to your students about the serious nature of making threats, because those words can lead to significant legal consequences, in addition to disciplinary action from the school district. And always remember to report – but not repost – rumors.”
As the investigation continues, more arrests and charges are possible.
