A Dairy Queen in Ennis proved to be no match for the powerful winds that struck through the town.
On April 12, severe weather resulted in the front section of the building collapsing onto the cars parked out front of the fast-food joint. Luckily no one was injured.
“All they said is that the roof blew off,” said the restaurant’s general manager Nicole Korthauer to Fox 4 News. “And I didn’t know if they meant the whole roof or part of it or what. They got everybody in the walk-in, as far as I know. But it was just winds as they tell me.”
One of the employees working during the incident, Courtney Odell, recounted what happened to NBC 5 News.
“I had just gotten off the phone with the corporate manager, and she said to get everyone away from the windows, but I just hung up the phone, and the wind started going,” said Odell. As she followed instructions, the wind caused part of the building to come crashing down.
Late into the evening, Ennis firefighters were on the site. The roof appeared to be in good shape, but the building will need to be inspected further before employees and customers are allowed to return.
In Hood County, strong winds also damaged a Granbury grocery store.
According to surveillance video, one of the sliding glass doors at Brookshire’s Grocery Store on Highway 144 came off its hinges and flew open. A display chair was even blown into the store by the wind.
No injuries were reported.
