Following several threats made to the Frisco Independent School District, seven Frisco students have been arrested, with the Frisco Chief of Police, David Shilson, announcing more arrests will follow.
The Frisco Police announced that Lone Star High School chose to close this past Monday and Tuesday. The high school had received threats via social media and by email. Out of concern for the safety of the students and staff, school officials decided to close the school and conducted several sweeps but did not discover anything.
Other schools within the district also received similar threats. According to NBC DFW, the threats were investigated by local police in Plano and Frisco and federal partners.
Police arrested seven students. Because the students are minors, their names are kept private. The only information shared was that some of the students are of middle school age and “are learning a painful lesson at too young of an age,” Frisco Chief of Police David Shilson said.
“This is not a game or contest for more likes or followers,” Chief Shilson said in his statement about the arrested students. “School threats and threats to school staff are criminal.”
Shilson emphasized the seriousness of the matter regarding any threats made to the school district and the students and staff.
“I give these illustrations as another reminder to all students and parents these threats will be taken seriously,” Shilson wrote, “and there are criminal consequences for anyone who threatens our schools or school staff. This is not a game or contest for more likes or followers.”
Shilson shared his gratitude for those who helped with the investigation. He said the investigation is still active.
