The Popeyes Foundation and Feed the Children will distribute food and household essentials to 400 Dallas-area families on Wednesday, May 6, at Seagoville Middle School.

The Resource Rally marks the 11th stop on the groups’ second SERVING WITH LOVE Tour, a 15-city national effort to help families facing hunger and financial strain.

The event will take place at Seagoville Middle School, 950 Woody Rd. Organizers will begin the opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and distribute food and essentials from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Each participating family will receive two boxes. One box contains 25 pounds of shelf-stable food. The other contains 15 pounds of essentials, including personal care items.

In total, organizers plan to distribute about 16,000 pounds of food and household essentials to Dallas-area families.

The partnership also plans to provide supplemental food and essentials to another 400 families in the community within 100 days of the Dallas stop.

Dallas ISD is serving as the local community partner.

At Seagoville Middle, Dallas ISD enrollment data shows 964 of the school’s 1,000 students, or 96.4%, are economically disadvantaged.

Scheduled speakers include:

  • Renee Hobbs, executive director of the Popeyes Foundation
  • Julie Laird-Davis, senior vice president of strategic partnerships and individual giving at Feed the Children
  • Anthony Guerrero, principal of Seagoville Middle School

The advisory cited U.S. Department of Agriculture data showing about one in eight Dallas households lacks reliable access to enough food. It also said 17% of Dallas residents live below the poverty line.

The event comes as North Texas organizations continue working to meet demand from families facing hunger. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the North Texas Food Bank said 1 in 5 North Texas children face hunger.

Supporters can donate through Feed the Children or the Popeyes Foundation.
