Dallas County reported its second heat-related death this year after an elderly man died Thursday as temperatures continued to hit triple digits.
A 77-year-old man has died of a heat-related illness; health officials did not release his name.
Dallas County Health and Human Services disclosed that the man had underlying health conditions but did not provide any other details.
Fatal heat-related illness often refers to an extreme form of hyperthermia, in which the body “absorbs or generates more heat than it can release.” Young children and those over 65 are most at risk.
DCHHS Director Philip Huang, M.D., M.P.H., encourages the public to continue to take precautions. “Hydrate constantly and limit your time outdoors to protect against the intense heat,” he stated.
Dallas County’s first death was that of a 66-year-old-woman in late July.
