Dallas diners can feast among the clouds once again when the Reunion Tower’s latest restaurant opens this spring.
The Las Vegas-based steakhouse Crown Block has announced April 17 as the official opening date for its signature restaurant in the upper sphere of Reunion Tower.
The 561-foot observation tower, located at 300 Reunion Boulevard in the heart of downtown Dallas, is renowned for its unique dining experience and 360-degree panoramic view of the Dallas skyline.
The Tower’s former occupant — Wolfgang Puck’s Five Sixty — was forced to shut down in 2020 following the closure of Reunion Tower at the start of the pandemic. Since then, Reunion Tower has been without one of its signature attractions.
However, things began looking up — pardon the pun — in October 2022 when Crown Block’s founders announced they would be moving into the vacant space high in the sky sometime in the spring of 2023.
The new Crown Block steak and seafood restaurant was founded by the husband-wife duo Elizabeth Blau and Chef Kim Canteenwalla of Las Vegas-based Blau & Associates. The husband and wife business partners have an extensive culinary background and are industry leaders who will bring their award-winning hospitality to Reunion Tower.
“Since the initial stages of imagining this concept, it was imperative for us to be part of the local culinary culture,” said Canteenwalla, according to reporting from WFAA. “From working closely with small, local farms, ranchers, and purveyors, Crown Block will offer the highest quality farm-raised meats and wild-caught seafood, capturing the true spirit of the Texas frontier and Gulf Coast,” he said.
In addition to the future restaurant space on the 18th floor, Crown Block will also offer a 17th-floor event space called The Crown Room. The event space can accommodate up to 175 seated guests and about 250 standing guests, according to the Reunion Tower website.
The restaurant’s expansive menu will include more than just steak and seafood, according to Chef Canteenwalla. The Crown Block will offer a variety of dishes, including sushi, a chilled seafood display, and a dessert bar with a mix of delicacies.
Chef Canteenwalla says he is most excited for guests to try the restaurant’s signature menu items, which include the rosewood ranch bone-in strip steak, the Akaushi striploin, and the Wagyu croquettes. Each menu item will be introduced during the grand opening of the new Reunion Tower restaurant, according to WFAA.
