The Irving Police Department recently arrested and charged 52-year-old Christopher Coggins in connection with the murder of his mother, 81-year-old Laverne Coggins.

Per a CBS 11 News report, Irving police say that the victim was found dead in her garage in the 600 block of Brookstone Drive on February 1.

Authorities said Irving Police and Irving Fire forcefully entered her home upon observation of multiple unusual circumstances. Laverne’s body was found inside a large zippered bag.

Shortly after discovering Laverne’s body, officers found Christopher hiding in the attic.

Police said that Christopher has a history of violence towards the victim, and he had previously been charged with unlawful restraint and injury to an elderly individual in June 2021. He was detained in Dallas County Jail until January 27, when he was released on probation just a week before he killed her.

The Irving Police Department is seeking further information on the case. Anyone with helpful information can contact the department at (972) 273-1010 or submit tips via [email protected].
