The Garland Police Department has set up a safe way for strangers to meet up and transact off Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, online transactions can be very convenient and cost-saving but can also lead to anxiety when it is finally time for both parties to meet.
The department wrote on Facebook that it created the “Exchange Zone” in response to the increase in online websites and apps that allow people to sell products from person to person directly.
“In front of our police station, 1891 Forest Lane, two designated parking spots are reserved for this purpose, called the Exchange Zone,” the department wrote on Facebook. “You can also utilize our police lobby, 7 days a week, 7 AM – 7 PM, excluding holidays.”
Garland police advised residents to question the intentions of a buyer or seller who feels uncomfortable about meeting at the police station.
