Dallas Police arrested a 29-year-old man late Monday for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting at a Far Northeast Dallas hotel.

Leon Dendell Pace is charged with murder in the slaying of Andres Torres. In the arrest warrant affidavit, police allege that Pace shot Torres multiple times at the Budget Suites of America extended-stay hotel in the 9500 block of Forest Lane, near Interstate 65.

According to the affidavit, a witness told police that Torres and Pace got into an argument. The witness, staying at the hotel with Torres, said that Pace went to Torres’ hotel room to curse at him and Pace called Torres a snake and threatened to shoot him.

The affidavit says that Pace later returned to Torres’ room and kicked in the door while holding a handgun. The witness, who was in the bathroom, said that he saw Pace fire at Torres. Pace didn’t stop until there were no more bullets in the gun.

According to the affidavit, the witness identified Pace as the gunman he saw. Police also reported finding bullets and a 9mm magazine in his room at the hotel.

The affidavit also mentioned a second witness who gave police a phone that Torres allegedly used. According to the affidavit, there were threatening messages from Pace on the phone.

Pace told police that he and Torres had been fighting recently and had argued that day but denied shooting Torres or owning a gun, the affidavit says.

Police booked Pace into the Dallas County jail. As of Tuesday, his bail has not been set. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
