The department revealed in a statement cited by Grand Prairie news that Bullet was undergoing emergency surgery Friday night when the veterinarian determined that “a tumor in his stomach had torn a hole in his stomach and was allowing air all around his organs.”

“After careful consideration and talking with the amazing veterinarians we felt it would be best to not wake Bullet up,” the post read.

The department described Bullet as “one of a kind,” saying that he will be missed.

According to the Grand Prairie Police Department, Bullet served seven years with the department, after which he retired in 2019. According to a report by NBCDFW, he assisted in 163 arrests in total throughout his career. The report also credited Bullet with retrieving 56 pounds of marijuana, 113 pounds of methamphetamines, and $4000 worth of cocaine.
