A vehicle crash early Sunday left one person dead and another in critical condition after it barreled into two homes in the Wolf Creek neighborhood.

The incident, reported around 3:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of Woodwick Drive in far South Dallas, has left residents shaken and authorities investigating.

Dallas Police Sgt. Robert Salone said the vehicle, speeding along Woodwick Drive, veered off, tore through two yards, struck concrete, and collided with the first home before ricocheting and lodging into a second.

“Looks like a car was coming through here, lost control, struck one house, continued going, and went into another house,” Salone said, noting speed likely contributed, according to NBC 5 DFW.

A neighbor described the impact as sounding like “two sonic booms,” while another called it “a very loud bang, it sounded like thunder or lightning.”

Chris Evers, whose 22-year-old daughter was asleep behind the damaged front wall of the first home, expressed relief.

“The way the bed is positioned in this room behind these two angles of the wall that saved her,” he said, per Fox 4 KDFW. “We felt like we were being watched over.”

The family awoke to smoke and chaos but escaped injury.

Evers told CBS News Texas that the car pushed through his daughter’s bedroom and into the bathroom, taking out the shower, toilet, and sink. The vehicle then ricocheted through a fence and plowed into the neighbor’s home.

Next door, Anthony Howard Jr. found his brick garage breached by a Lexus sedan.

“This is my first home. Unfortunate events are all I can say. I am at a loss for words. It’s traumatizing, yes,” he said, Fox 4 reported. “People of Dallas, be very careful when you are behind the wheel.”

The driver, identified by family and friends as Antony Clemons of Dallas, died at the scene, while the passenger was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Lawrence White, a resident who lives across the street, said, “It’s something I will never forget, and it’s not even my house. It will be deeply embedded in my mind, you know, forever,” according to Fox 4.

Police continue to probe the cause, with the damaged homes now boarded up after crews extracted the vehicle.
