A Dallas police officer shot and killed an armed individual early Saturday morning after responding to a shooting that left multiple people wounded under a downtown bridge.

The encounter occurred around 2:25 a.m. when officers were flagged down near Canton Street and South Good Latimer Expressway in downtown Dallas.

Police discovered multiple shooting victims in a parking lot beneath the bridge. Officers then encountered an armed individual, and one officer discharged their weapon.

The person shot by police died. Authorities have not confirmed whether the individual was responsible for the original gunfire. Officers provided first aid to the injured before paramedics arrived. All injured parties were transported to local hospitals.

Multiple weapons were recovered at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office responded and will conduct its own investigation into the officer’s use of deadly force. The Office of Community Police Oversight was also notified, as is standard procedure.

Authorities have not released further details about what led to the shooting or how many people were wounded. The investigation remains ongoing.
