The Grandberry Intervention Foundation, also known as T.G.I.F., will celebrate twenty years of pairing foster children with forever families statewide this Sunday in Rockwall.

The charitable foundation’s mission is to protect children and assist them with overcoming abuse and neglect. They also recognize and prepare independent contractors who care for foster children.

The founder of the North Texas nonprofit, Sharon Grandberry, said, “I actually remember sitting in a meeting one day, and they were talking about all the troubles and all the gang violence and all the things that are going on in our community. I recall looking up at the ceiling and heard a voice say, ‘you’re that somebody.'”

Grandberry said she stepped out on faith by quitting her job and accepting a “higher calling” as the organization’s creator, which is based in Fort Worth. According to T.G.I.F’s website, they offer foster care, adoption, kinship, and respite care.

The nonprofit also has an upcoming community center that will provide services such as a social distance virtual learning center. Other services include a youth intervention program with parenting education exchange, a daily kid cafe, and a monthly pop-up pantry. Guests can book the community center as well.

She wants others to know, “These are average children. Yeah, they have average problems just like your biological children have problems, but you know it’s the commitment that you have that makes a difference.”

There are several ways that you can get involved. If you would like to donate to the organization, you may do so through a monetary gift, wish list donations, community partners, matching gifts, estate plans, or by sponsoring an event.

Her nonprofit foundation has assisted with placing over 5,000 foster children in stable homes over the past twenty years. Along with the office in Fort Worth, T.G.I.F has locations in Beaumont and Houston.
