Muggy weather is expected to persist across North Texas for the week.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has predicted warm temperatures with chances of rain and thunderstorms across the region for the remainder of this week. Chances of these storms are expected to rise by the middle of the week.

The NWS further forecasted a chance of isolated strong and even severe storms across the metroplex to start the week off on May 8, beginning in the afternoon hours. The agency already tracked one system that passed across the region; however, these storms were not rated as severe.

Chances for scattered thunderstorms are expected to persist on May 9, but the organization does not expect any severe conditions.

Hunter Reeves with the NWS in Fort Worth told The Dallas Express that chances of rain and thunderstorms will continue to increase throughout the week; this is expected to mainly be a “rain event.”

“It’s gonna be mostly to our southeast, but those rain chances are gradually increased throughout the week as we approach Thursday into Friday and even over the weekend too,” said Reeves. “So it’s gonna be a pretty wet week.”

Reeves said that the overall severe threat is “low to nonexistent” and that the hazards the agency is watching for are localized and flash flooding.

May 10 is expected to bring the most widespread coverage of rain. This coverage will remain throughout the week.

Amid these rain chances, the NWS has also predicted that warm and humid weather will remain across the region. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s but could climb into the 90s across the region.

Tornado season is already well underway in Texas, having begun in March. Reeves, however, told The Dallas Express that the dry line remaining west of the area is the main reason for decreased frequency.

“That dry line rarely ever makes it this far east. It typically stays well to our west,” said Reeves. “So a lot of those storms also hang out to our west with at least the pattern we’ve had.”
