The deadline to register for the Mayor’s Back to School Fair at Fark Park is scheduled for Friday.

“The Mayor’s Back to School Fair is an annual Dallas tradition, and it’s one of my favorite events of the year,” Eric Johnson said, according to NBC DFW.

In its 28th year, the event provides “essential school supplies and valuable services” to Dallas families. Hosted by the mayor, it is a partnership between the City of Dallas, non-profit organizations, community volunteers, corporations, and Dallas ISD.

“We aim to serve economically disadvantaged students and their families who live in the City of Dallas and/or attend a Dallas ISD school in grades Pre-K to 12.”

The event is set for August 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Doors open at 6. NBC DFW reported in June that more than 1,000 families had registered for the Mayor’s Back to School Fair, where students may pick up backpacks with supplies and receive free immunizations, dental screenings, haircuts, and vision exams.

“Our goal is to guarantee that every child, regardless of their socioeconomic status, is equipped to take full advantage of the educational opportunities that are provided to them in our public schools,” Johnson said, according to NBC DFW.

About 139,000 students from Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Balch Springs, Combine, Cockrell Hill, Duncanville, Farmers Branch, DeSoto, Garland, Highland Park, Lancaster, Mesquite, Hutchins, University Park, Seagoville, and Wilmer attend school in the district.
