Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has revealed that he will delay his annual “State of the City” speech by two weeks so he can finish quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19.
On Tuesday, Mayor Johnson announced that the speech initially scheduled for Thursday, November 4, will now be given on November 17 at Dallas City Hall.
The mayor revealed that he is still recovering from the virus and plans to return to work on Friday.
“My symptoms are improving every day, and I look forward to getting back to work so we can discuss our city’s needs in the year ahead,” Johnson said in a statement.
Johnson also appreciated “the outpouring of support from the people of Dallas” since news of his infection broke.
Mayor Johnson, who is fully vaccinated, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, October 26.
Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations, Johnson is in quarantine for ten days after testing positive for the virus.
