Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced his campaign will have more than $1.2 million by the time he files for reelection in January.

Johnson’s campaign announced on Tuesday that it will report its cash on hand next month in a campaign finance report — which will cover July 1 through December 31, 2022. Filing for the May 2023 mayoral election begins on January 18, 2023.

“The breadth of support for our campaign has been truly amazing, and I look forward to serving my hometown as mayor for another four years if I am privileged to again win the support of our city’s voters in May,” the incumbent said.

In July, his campaign reported having over $875,000 in cash on hand. According to that finance report, the campaign raised more than $331,000 within the first six months of 2022 and spent more than $27,000.

The report included campaign contributions from Sewell Automotive CEO Carl Sewell, investor Ross Perot Jr., tax consultant and entrepreneur G. Brint Ryan, former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, and the political action committee for Southwest Airlines.

Johnson announced his reelection bid in September. Since then, his campaign has raised over $400,000.

“Everything we have been able to accomplish as a city since I was elected in 2019 has been because of the people of Dallas,” Johnson said, praising the community’s “support, generosity, and resilience.”

“The results have been clear: People and businesses are choosing to move to our city and to invest in Dallas,” Johnson continued. “And I am honored to lead our city through such an important time in our history.”

Though Johnson insinuates that Dallas is “leading the nation in economic growth,” in reality, DFW is growing while the city of Dallas is shrinking. Building development in Dallas continues to be stifled by an antiquated permitting process and overbearing regulations, causing businesses to settle around the city rather than in it, boosting the population of nearby areas like Fort Worth and Irving.
