The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) announced on Tuesday that face masks are no longer required for passengers and employees.
According to the metro system’s website, they are dedicated to maintaining a safe environment for passengers and employees.
The company will continue to have face masks and hand sanitizer dispensers accessible on all buses, light rail vehicles, TRE vehicles, and Dallas streetcars for anyone who wants to continue wearing one for added safety.
On buses, light rail, paratransit vehicles, and properties, DART continues to implement stringent cleaning and safety standards.
Face masks are also no longer needed at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Airport and Love Field, and can be used voluntarily, according to a statement released Tuesday. Travelers should verify with airlines and their destinations for any rules requiring face masks, according to the airport.
The decisions followed after a federal judge in Florida overruled the national mask mandate that the White House had in place.
U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle stated that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) could not accurately justify the need for the mandate.
