The City of Duncanville announced that Mark LiVigni has been appointed as the Chief of Police.

In a news release, the city said it selected LiVigni amongst 26 candidates who were eventually vetted down to three finalists. The finalists went through several interviews and a community meet and greet before the final selection.

“Both Chief LiVigni’s professionalism and commitment to our city made him an ideal choice for permanent appointment as our Chief of Police,” City Manager Aretha R. Ferrell-Benavides said.

Per CBS 11 News, LiVigni is a United States Air Force veteran who has served at the Duncanville Police Department for over 28 years. Since March 2021, he has served as Interim Police Chief.

Mark LiVigni holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas. He is a graduate of several high-level professional training courses, including the Senior Management in Policing training of the Police Executive Research Forum, the FBI National Academy, and the Institute of Law Enforcement Administration’s Executive Leadership training.

LiVigni has served in every sworn rank of the Duncanville Police Department, making him only their second appointed chief of police to have done so.

Mayor Barry L. Gordon of the city of Duncanville expressed support for LiVigni’s appointment.

“I and the Duncanville City Council, as representatives of the residents of our fine city, are pleased that Duncanville will have a continuity of the type of quality service our great Police Department has always provided,” he said, as reported by CBS 11 News. He further said that he and the City Council can “stand behind” LiVigni’s selection with great confidence.

Former Police Chief and Assistant City Manager Robert D. Brown, Jr., who has worked alongside LiVigni for years, said that he is confident that LiVigni will “innovate and elevate the Duncanville Police Department” as the new police chief.

LiVigni will be formally sworn to his new position in a ceremony scheduled for Thursday, February 3.
