A month has passed since a shooting at a Dallas concert. As reported by The Dallas Express, sixteen people were shot when an event in southeast Oak Cliff went wrong on April 3, leaving one dead. One of the survivors, Randy Davis, 24, was shot in the hip.
“[The bullet] hit my hip, it ruptured, it’s in my leg, and it curved around, and fractured five vertebrates in my spine,” said Davis in an interview with WFAA.
“As far as the bullet, it’s too close; it’s in my spine. They can’t perform surgery to get it out,” said Davis. “It’s permanent. There is no feeling in my leg,” he added. He now has to use a walker for assistance.
Davis said his pain keeps him awake at night, but the pain is not only physical.
The thought of how his injury affects his 3-year-old son, Kyceon, also pains him. The father said he wishes to “play around” with the child like he once could. In addition, his aspirations of becoming a mechanic were crushed.
“I was getting ready to enroll into mechanic school. But with a lot of bending, everything is on stop right now,” Davis stated.
Now, his mother, Tamisha Speace, hopes someone will come forward so that justice can be served.
“It’s something that you dread, as a mother, to get a call about anything happening to your children,” said Speace.
Davis’ family has created an online fundraising effort to assist him in his recovery.
Another of the victims, Breanna Gray, was shot in the leg at the event.
Gray told WFAA that she was protected by a man who shielded her. She said she did not feel the bullet hit her when it happened, only pressure where the gunshot wound turned out to be.
The woman expressed her gratitude for being alive, stating that she has a 5-year-old daughter to look after.
Dallas Police are still seeking the suspect(s) involved.
