A man died early Wednesday after his truck became trapped and submerged in rapidly rising floodwaters under an Interstate 635 bridge in north Dallas, authorities said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call just after midnight reporting that a vehicle was stuck in high water near 12900 Park Central Drive, close to Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway at Hillcrest Road. First responders, including a Swift Water Rescue team, found two vehicles in floodwaters near White Rock Creek.

One man escaped his submerged car and swam to safety, but dangerous conditions prevented immediate rescue efforts for the second vehicle. Once water levels receded, crews discovered an adult male deceased inside the truck. The Dallas County Medical Examiner, who arrived on the scene around 5:30 a.m., has not yet released the victim’s identity.

The National Weather Service, which issued a Flash Flood Warning for Dallas County until 3 a.m., reiterated its “turn around, don’t drown” guideline, cautioning against driving through flooded roads due to unknown conditions beneath the water. Parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area saw over four inches of rain in a few hours, contributing to hazardous road conditions.

Dallas Fire-Rescue reported five water rescues overnight, including three involving multiple stranded vehicles and one stalled car. The department, equipped with two dedicated swift water stations and additional rescue gear, trains year-round for such emergencies.

Authorities have not disclosed how long the vehicles were stuck or what led the drivers into the floodwaters.
