Around 7:40 pm on Saturday, November 13th, Juan Manuel Hurtado was shot in an alleged road rage shooting in Dallas. The incident occurred right before the split between Interstate 45 and Interstate 75, on the eastbound Interstate 30 service road.

According to WFAA, police mentioned that the person who called in the report said that “there was a shooting between two vehicles.”

When authorities arrived at the scene, Hurtado was found with a gunshot injury still inside his vehicle. He later died at a nearby hospital.

According to Juan’s nineteen-year-old daughter Anahi Hurtado, Juan was out and about getting his truck repaired and wanted it done before Monday morning when he would have worked next.

Anahi expressed, “I lost my best friend, my dad, my everything.” She also said, “I couldn’t say goodbye.”

Juan Manuel Hurtado was forty-nine years old, married to his wife for thirty years, had four children and four grandchildren. According to Anahi, “He was shot multiple times” during the alleged road rage shooting. “We have everything, but without him, we have nothing,” she expressed.

Juan was sixteen years old when he moved from Mexico to the United States, reports NBC DFW. His family explained that when he came to the United States, he began working as a construction worker repairing foundations. He was born with only one arm and worked hard to provide for himself and his family.

Anahi said, “A lot of people thought he couldn’t do anything. But he was better than a lot of people with two arms.”

Juan’s daughter-in-law, Marilo Pacheco, stated, “To know this happened in the blink of an eye; we were just altogether on Friday night.”

Juan’s family met with detectives on Monday, November 15th, and spoke about further details they learned about the possible vehicle that witnesses have claimed may be involved in the shooting.

According to WFAA, this is an ongoing investigation, where the motive and possible suspects are still at large.

Family members are pleading for help from the public and the community. “We want this closure. We don’t want this open. I don’t want to tell my kids your grandpa was murdered,” said Pacheco.

She also stated, “We’re just begging for anyone who saw anything, please come out and say,” while adding, “They need peace. We all need peace.”

Juan “was the sole provider for the family,” WFAA shared. There is an online fundraiser that was set up by the family to hopefully succeed in an amount that can help pay for his funeral arrangements. You can access the fundraiser here.

WFAA states that “anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call police at 214-671-3650. Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment, and they can be reached at 214-373-8477.”

WBAP mentioned that if witnesses call the police at that number, ask for Derick Chaney, a Homicide Detective. He can also be reached by email at [email protected].

Pacheco expressed, “We want justice for him,” and continued with, “Whoever did this, please, please if you have a conscience come forward – please come out. Just look what you did to their family. Look what you did to us.”
